Volusia County Jail Roster Overview

The Volusia County jail is run by the Volusia County Division of Corrections. This is a county agency, and it is separate from the Volusia Sheriff's Office. The Division keeps the public inmate roster. It also runs booking, bond, visitation, mail, and the jail funds system. The official roster is the Volusia County Division of Corrections Inmate Inquiry. You must accept a disclaimer before the search form loads. The portal is free, and it needs no login.

The roster shows people booked into the county jail. That means pretrial inmates and people serving short county sentences. It is not the place to find a sentenced state felon. Once a person is transferred to state prison, the search moves to the Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) locator. Federal inmates show on the Bureau of Prisons site. People in immigration custody show on the ICE locator. The county roster does not cover any of those three. The disclaimer also notes that online data is not the official record. Only the records kept inside the jail are official.

How Do I Find Someone in the Volusia Jail

Start with the online roster, then fall back to the phone if the search comes up empty. The fastest path uses a booking number if you have one. A name search works too. If a recent arrest has not posted yet, the jail booking line can confirm custody by phone.

Several things can cause an empty result. The name may be spelled differently. The person may use an alias. A new booking may not be entered yet. The person may have been released, transferred to state prison, or taken into federal or immigration custody. Treat a blank result as a prompt to check the next channel, not as proof the person is not in jail.

How to Use the Volusia County Inmate Roster

The roster lives at the Division of Corrections inmate inquiry site. You reach the search form after a single disclaimer screen. The disclaimer states the data is for general public use and is not the official record. Reading it first helps explain why some fields are limited. Before any roster lookup, the county shows this notice and an Accept button.

To start, open the official inmate inquiry portal and review what the county posts.

Clicking Accept on that screen takes you to the search fields, where you can enter a name or a booking number.

1. Open https://volusiamug.vcgov.org/ and read the Division of Corrections disclaimer.
2. Click Accept to reach the Inmate Inquiry page.
3. Search by Last Name, First Name, or Booking #. No field is marked required, so enter at least a last name or a booking number.
4. To browse new arrests, click Recent. Recent results are paginated and show booking photos where available.
5. To include older or released records, check Include Archive Records in Search before you search.
6. In the results grid, click the Booking # to open the full detail profile.
7. Use the Volusia County Clerk for court dates, filed charges, and certified court records, since the roster is not the official court record.

Volusia County Roster Search Fields

The inmate inquiry form keeps the search simple. It accepts a last name, a first name, and a booking number. It also has one checkbox that widens the search to archived records. The county does not mark any field as required and posts no rules for wildcards or minimum characters. In practice, a last name or a booking number is the cleanest input.

The form also has buttons that shape the search. Search runs the query. Cancel clears it. Recent returns a grid of recent bookings with photo thumbnails and clickable booking numbers. The archive checkbox should be read as a wider search, not a full criminal history. Court files and state criminal records are separate systems.

What a Volusia County Roster Record Shows

Click a booking number and the profile opens. The page lists the person's basic identity, the booking event, and a charge grid. Each charge row carries its own statute, bond, and case numbers. Scan across the Charge Information section to read each row. The fields below were seen on a typical public profile.

Some fields a family member expects are not on the public profile. Housing unit, pod or cell, and full date of birth are not shown. Height, weight, the judge, the court date, and an arresting-agency label were also not visible. The profile did show arrest and court case numbers. Those numbers help you follow up with the arresting agency or the Clerk. Finding County, State, and Federal Inmates

Custody type decides which system to use. Pretrial and short-sentence inmates sit in the county jail and show on the Volusia roster. A felon who has been sentenced moves to state prison, and that search shifts to the FDC locator. Federal defendants use the Bureau of Prisons locator. People held on an immigration matter use the ICE detainee locator. Searching the wrong system is the most common reason a lookup fails.

The FDC system covers felony offenders sentenced to state prison or state supervision. It does not list people sentenced to county jail or county probation. A state record search starts at the FDC inmate population search form.

The Florida Department of Corrections offender search returns sentenced state prisoners, who are a separate group from county jail inmates.

That FDC form takes a last name, a first name, or a six-character DC number. For federal custody, the Bureau of Prisons locator is the right tool instead.

The federal BOP locator searches inmates held by the Bureau of Prisons from 1982 to the present.

No BOP prison or ICE detention center sits inside Volusia County, so a federal or immigration case may route through the U.S. Marshals or a contract site first. For ongoing notice of a custody or release change, VINELink is a free fallback where the data is shared.

Volusia County Jail Facilities

The county jail is two buildings on one campus near U.S. 92 in Daytona Beach. The Branch Jail is the intake, bond, and First Appearance building. It holds pretrial inmates, state-sentenced inmates awaiting transport, and medium to high custody men. The Correctional Facility holds county-sentenced inmates, lower custody men, and all female inmates. Both share one roster, so the public lookup does not name the exact building. The 2024 annual report lists a combined design capacity of 1,722.

The Booking, Bonding, Charges, and Arrest line is 386-254-1540. The Booking Office runs around the clock. State facilities sit nearby too. Tomoka Correctional Institution and the Tomoka work camp and release centers are run by the state, not the county. Those are searched through the FDC locator, not the county roster.

Booking Process in Volusia County

Every arrest funnels through ID and Receiving at the Branch Jail. The 2024 annual report says officers processed 18,788 people there in one year. Many are released soon after intake on bond or pretrial release. The rest are screened, classified, and housed. A booking record, with its booking number, is created during this intake. That is what makes a person appear on the roster.

Booking is the jail intake event that creates a booking number and a custody record. First Appearance follows within about one day. It is the first court hearing after a jail admission. The judge reads the charges, weighs probable cause, may change bond, may grant release on own recognizance, and may appoint a public defender. First Appearance is held at the Branch Jail at 1:30 p.m. on weekdays and 8:30 a.m. on weekends and holidays. Anyone may attend.

After First Appearance, a Case Counselor interviews and classifies the inmate. Classification is the jail's review of custody level and housing based on charges, history, behavior, and medical needs. Staff then assign a housing unit. Once release paperwork starts, processing can take two to four hours. As of April 29, 2024, the jail does not release anyone between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. unless a responsible party is on site to drive the person off the property.

Volusia County Inmate Visitation Schedule

The county provides video visitation only. There are no contact visits. On-site visits happen at the Video Visitation Center at 1300A Red John Drive, next to the Branch Jail. The vendor is ICSolutions. You schedule through that vendor or by calling 888-646-9437. Each session runs 30 minutes, Tuesday through Saturday. You need the inmate's six-digit booking number to set up a visit.

Plan your timing carefully. Check in 10 minutes before the session, because late arrivals are turned away once the visit starts. Appointments must be set at least 24 hours ahead and by 9 p.m. the day before. New inmates have visits restricted during their first 72 hours unless a supervisor approves. Adults need a photo ID with a date of birth. Phones, tablets, cameras, and large bags are not allowed in the visitation building.

How to Contact a Volusia County Inmate

Mail, phone, and texting each follow set rules. The public cannot call in and speak to an inmate directly. Inmates place their own calls through IC Solutions. Texting runs through Smart Jail Mail. Regular mail is scanned at a central address and delivered to inmate tablets, not handed over on paper. Legal mail and money orders go to a different address at the Correctional Facility.

For regular mail, address the envelope to SCH-VCDC FL, then the inmate name and booking number, P.O. Box 30, Pinellas Park, FL 33781. Mail is screened and delivered Monday through Friday, with none on weekends or holidays. Use the name the inmate was booked under and the matching booking number. Mail sent to a released inmate is returned to the sender unopened. Legal mail and money orders instead go to Volusia County Corrections, the inmate name and booking number, 1354 Indian Lake Road, Daytona Beach, FL 32124.

Communication is limited during the first 72 hours of custody. That window can affect calls, texts, and visits alike. If you are unsure whether a person is still in custody, confirm through the roster or the booking line before you send mail or money.

Volusia County Inmate Funds and Commissary

Money for an inmate goes through TouchPay. The county facility number is 232124. You can deposit at a kiosk in the Branch Jail lobby or the Video Visitation Center. You can deposit online at touchpayonline.com. You can also deposit by phone at 1-866-232-1899. Money orders, certified checks, and government checks are accepted by mail or lobby drop box with no fee. Personal checks are not accepted.

Deposits flow into the inmate's Trust Account. That account pays for commissary and phone time. It can also be used for debts such as unpaid medical care or restitution. Florida jail funds rules here are strict on one point. All deposits first satisfy 50% of any outstanding trust-fund debt before the rest becomes available. So a deposit may not fully reach the inmate's spending balance right away.

One more caution applies to bond and funds alike. The county posts a fraud alert. No one from the Division of Corrections will ever call or text to demand bond money through Zelle, Cash App, PayPal, or Bitcoin. Treat those messages as scams and report them.
